30 Sep 2006 - A Dirty Weekend?

A Very DIRTY Weekend or Good CLEAN Fun? you decide

It was late, the dark eerie, creepy lanes did nothing to comfort us, we had missed a turning somewhere along the way, and the lack of signposts from this direction didn't help. The number of entrances to the ground did not help either.

Eventually with the help of a kindly grounds man, we found our way into the place.
With the help of the Super Nova's and a man with a four-wheel drive, we managed to do the " legs down . kettle on thing ".. We were too tired to heat and eat supper so cereals all round and off to bed.
Pups; Moses, Tia, Jet, Pepsi and Pheobe didn't argue and snored along with the rest of us.

The morning came, some poor souls had to de-camp and re-camp due to a mix up with the country show folk, turns out that they were camped backing on to where the Bow and Arrow stuff was happening! (yes I think I would have moved rather than got shot too!). Anyway we were ok where we were, and for once, we were reasonably close to the orange netting, so hopefully the team would think we'd done o.k. (Don't let on it was more luck than judgement seeing as it was pitch black when we arrived!)

Speak of the team and along they rolled - in no particular order - there was;
Derek, the motor home and the very beautiful Bonny,
Carolyn's two, Maddy and Jed plus Ken's Harvey making a terrific trio,
Daniella, and her four musketeers - Quincy, TJ, Emerys and Boo,
Colin, Bev with Caravan and their Famous Five - Tara, Tess, Trudi, Tia and Chloe,
Kathryn, with her tall and handsome duo - Alfie and Leo,
Sandra and Muriel with their singular sensation - Megan,
Helen, Hubby and Co and the dashing Dexter dog,
Lynn and Phil, with double delights, Emma and Jess, and Caroline, Ashleigh and Super Trouper, Tilly.

So the gangs all here, and more to the point at this stage, the Gazebo's all here. Our stunning new Gazebo with its large canvas, its many poles and fixtures has all arrived with numerous team members to assemble in this wondrous place, this muddy field, this Chumley.

As for the dirty weekend theory; well lets look at the evidence,
Lots of money changed hands,
There were Harnesses, Leather, Rubber and Neoprene goods, and something called Fat Panda's that were red and when you held them in your hands they got hot and went hard.
My Husband Pete kept going off into the next field with different people, leaving me in the previously mentioned gazebo.
And Phil and Lyn disappeared in between the trees, with passers by being shocked by the pronouncements "cor thats a big un!"

Of course all of this can be easily explained.
The lots of money changing hands was the Fylde Coasters Shoppaholicks buying Dog Beds, Soft Cates, the harnesses were for Alfie and Dexter. Kathryn did a bit of Christmas Shopping! Well it was October - just! The Leather was Pete's new hat (which was a big improvement on the previous one that made him look like Freddie Crugger) As for the Rubber and the Neoprene well we found MUDDIES a rather attractive very warm and cosy welly, which I renamed Muddlers (I couldn't read the logo, Carolyn set me straight - her attention to detail is far better than mine I'm only an Auditor, what can you expect!)
So I bought some Muddlers at full price, as did Sam,
Pete then got discount, and escorted Daniella, Kathryn, Colin, Bev, Carolyn, Ken, who also got discount.
The hot hard red things are fantastic hand warmers, they have to be seen to be believed, and can be re-used over and over, haven't got a clue how they work but they do.
Phil and Lyn in the trees, protested their innocence claiming only to be collecting conkers for their grandchildren!
The dirty weekend title was only really applicable when we looked to the ground.
Mud, glorious mud - and lots of it.
The Muddlers / Muddies earned their keep for sure.

So on to the goon clean fun part.
The Flyball.

I'm writing this a month late and cannot remember the order, Starters were on the Sunday for definite, and I think so were the Surfers, with Roller Coasters and Coasters on the Saturday.

Anyway a synopsis of results for you now;

Division 4. The Coasters were the Collies, Emma, Bonny, Quincy and Jess.
They ran against 5 teams, winning against the Knutsford tailspinners, the Mansfield Tantrums, the Spanish Rapidz and the Red Rose Rascals, they came 2nd out of 6 losing only to The Cheshire Chasers. The fastest time of the day was 20.00 seconds and the points total was 381. Three wins were 3-0 victories, the fourth win was a 4-0 victory and commendably the one lost was taken to 5 legs. A very good end to the Coaster out door season.

Division 6.The Roller Coasters 5 were Leo, TJ, Maddy, Megan and Tilly. They had 5 races to run so took one turn on the bench each.
We lost to the Kiddymonsters 3-1
The Cleveland Whirlwinds took us to 5 legs but the victory was ours.
We beat the Springers in 3 straight legs.
The Nuneaton Cyclones got the 1st leg but we had the next 3
Sadly we lost to the Blackpool Quazars 3-0
All said the Roller Coasters achieved 3rd place rosettes, points on the day a good share of the total 345, with the fastest time 21.15 seconds.

Division 8. The Surfers 6 was, Jed, Harvey, Trudi, Pepsi, Moses and Emerys.
This was another 6-team division so with 6 dogs we had paws galore.
What Chumley Champs they became, winning 4 of their 5 races;
3 in 3 straight legs against the Grey Wolves, the Wilmslow Boys and the Chocolate Bytes, the fourth win was against the Blackpool White Dwarf Stars which went to 5 legs. Our only loss of the day was to Wired for Action.
A 25.58 was the Surfers fastest time of the day, and a 2nd place rosette was well deserved. The points to share were 20.

The Starters line up for the morning session included Pheobe, now this was as much a shock to her as to everyone else, but she had her first outing, and her first photograph taken and was even allowed to collect her first rosette (even though she ran in only one leg and wimped out in the afternoon because of all the Clay Pigeons being shot!).

The Starters line up was the dependable girls Chloe and Boogie, with new boy racers Alfie and Dexter. This was a 7 team division running best of 3.
We won against the Red Rosebuds 2-0, the Carry on team 2-1, the Munchkins 2-1 and lost against the Blackpool Babes 2-1, Coming Through 2-0, and the Wire Flash 2-0.
The Fylde Hotdogs claimed a 4th place rosette and had a fastest time of 25.24.

Interviewed after the race Alfie and Dexter both agreed that they are looking forward to life without netting in 2007.

So the racing was good, this was a decent turn out by the team and a stonking end to the 2006 outdoor season.

I seemed to be making an attempt to steal Bev's title from her - as well as my Muddies Muddles Muddle I invented a new holiday for the Nation, we will in future have Blank Holidays, I'm not sure at this stage if this is in addition to or instead of the usual Bank Holidays - make a note - must discuss with HRH.

The shopping done, the racing over, the rosettes and the bite on the Bytes had. The sun had gone down night had fallen, the Gazebo was disassembled and distributed for the return journey. We were ready for the off, but the dirty weekend was not for letting us leave, the mud had a tight hold and several of us needed a Wellington boot clad young man on the pull to come calling!
Thanks to the estate hand from Cholmondeley Castle and his Tractor, we were eventually on our way home.

I'll end my short write up here, but just before I do, I would like to thank Daniella for leading us throughout the season, an excellent captain, good friend to us all, and an all round smasher.
Also to put in print a "thank you" to all the team, the Fun and Friendship isn't guaranteed in Flyball, but it seems we have a good mix of Fabulous Fylde Folk (whether native or imported) and the good times that accompany the racing abound. Training nights and an occasional indoor event will keep us going until Easter then the cry will once more be heard "Are You Ready?"
